Skywatch Friday, Mt. Diablo

A cloudless sky over Mount Diablo on the first day of Fall.
I had heard that most of the State Parks could possibly be closed soon, so I made time for a quick hike out to Balancing Rock in Mount Diablo State Park. It was about 90 degrees out on the trail. There were just a few bikers riding up the road to the summit, I think I must have been the only hiker in the park that day.... Hot, nary a breath of breeze, and not a cloud in the sky....
Our Northern California sky can be pretty boring in Summer and Fall....
So,
to see interesting sky pictures from all around the world!

Red sky in morning, sailor take warning! Skiers rejoice!
I returned home at dawn from working the graveyard shift at the airport. This was the day we were heading up to Truckee for our Winter long weekend. We were looking forward to some snow!

We made it up over Donner Summit and into Truckee without any problem at all.
During the night it began to snow. And it snowed.... and snowed.... and snowed.....

The next day it continued to snow.....

It snowed during the children's ski lessons...
It snowed all day!
And the next!

It was still snowing on Monday morning!

Sky and Valley

Big cloud over San Ramon, CA

Sunol Valley
Early morning view taken in September 2003.
You won't find this same view anymore since bulldozers and graders have since totally changed the valley floor. I presumed all their work was in preparation for a housing developement, but to date none has been built.

Remember film? These two shots are scans of slides shot with a Leica M6 Ttl. The cloud picture was shot through a 90mm f2, the bottom through a 50mm f2 lens.

Europe travel...

Reit im Winkl, Bavaria, Germany

Spring showers in Vienna.

The Danube river.

Waiting for the U-Bahn.
Vienna

My favorite meal, wienerschnitzel...
So tasty I had to take a picture of it!
Spatenhaus, Residenzenstrasse 12, Munich

Schloss Linderhof
The Schloss itself was being renovated and was covered with scaffolding. The gardens were magnificant even on a gray, cloudy afternoon.

San Francisco airport seen from about 10,000 feet on a north downwind arrival.

Nearing the end of a European travel adventure.
Turning base over South San Francisco Bay on a very windy Spring day.
The airport can be seen just above the high span of the San Mateo Bridge.

All these photos were taken in May and June 2004 with a Leica Digilux 1 camera.

McWay Falls

Over the years, I must have driven up and down the Big Sur Coast on Hwy 1 twenty times, unknowingly passing this wonderful cove in my hurry to get to wherever I was headed. You don't see the falls from the road, only a T-intersection leading into a State Park. If you blink at the wrong time you will miss the signs.... If you are observant though, you can take in this sight by stopping for just 15 minutes. It is a very short walk from the Highway to see this gem of Big Sur...

August sunrise, Crater Lake

Looking into the caldera from the rim.
The still waters of Crater Lake reflect the dark blue sky perfectly.
